Malifaux: The Gorgon's Tomb League Use of Influence Points

Influence Points (IP) can only be gained through playing against other people or fulfilling the League Achievements. Each Player has two different scores for IP: Total and Used. Total IP is the grand sum of every point the player has earned throughout the league from both game play and achievements. This number is more of a personal milestone to track what each player has accomplished during the league. This is also a pool of IP that are used towards capturing locations on the map. The Used pool is the amount of the total IP each player has put towards locations on the map.

Example: Rick has earned the Achievements First Encounter (4 pts), and Hand of Creation (10pts). The decides that he wants to put 8 of his IP into The Darklands to bolster the area that his faction currently holds. His new Total/Used IP score is 14/8.

IP can only be used to add to the location you chose to be fighting out of or used to subtract from the IP of the location your opponent was fighting out of. When bolstering your current location the points are added to your personal total, which will also bolster your faction total.

Example: Rick Earned 7 VP during his last match. He decides he wants to use all of it to bolster the Darklands. He currently has 4 IP in the Darklands. His Guild faction has a total of 10 points (4 from Rick, 6 from Dave). After spending the 7 IP He currently has 11 IP and his faction jumps to 17 IP (The now 11 for Rick and the 6 from Dave).

Subtracting IP from your opponent lessens their Influence on the area and also decreases their factions hold on the location. If you ever lessen your opponents IP in the area beyond 0 you will remove IP from all of the other controlling faction members equally. If the opposing faction ever drops to 0 IP then the location is neutral. Any points that go BEYOND the neutral mark will now be IP that you control in that area.

Example One: Rick scored a victory over Dana, earning him 10 IP that he chooses to use towards kicking the Neverborn out of Colony 6. Dana currently is the only Neverborn player controlling it and only has 4 IP in the area. Rick uses all 10 IP to bump her out and now he controls Colony 6 with 6 IP.

Example Two: Rick now controls Colony 6 with 6 IP and Kevin helps bolster it with 4 points; making Guild control over Colony 6 a total of 10. A few rounds and some victories later Dana beats Kevin and decided to move towards reclaiming the Colony 6 location. The puts her 8 points into Colony 6. Since Kevin was her opponent she subtracts 4 points from Kevin (that is all he had) and the other 4 from Rick. The Guild now only has 2 IP in the area with only Rick having control. He is now a much easier target.


Scoring IP during a game:

Determine how many VP you gathered from both your schemes and your Shared Strategy. If you beat your opponent you also gain the margin in bonus VP which are then used for IP.

Example: In the last Game Dana scored 6 VP between her Strategy total and her Schemes. Kevin Scored 4 VP between the Strategy and his two schemes. Dana beat him by 2. She add to to her VP total. This new total is her IP to add to her pool.
